Counsel that carries weight.
For nearly four decades, Sterling & Vance has represented the Lowcountry’s families, founders, and institutions in the matters that shape their futures, with rigor, discretion, and an old-fashioned regard for the client’s word.
Founded above Broad Street. Still there.
Sterling & Vance opened in 1987 in four rooms over a Broad Street bank, and has never found a persuasive reason to leave. In the thirty-nine years since, the firm has carried more than fourteen hundred matters to resolution: verdicts and quiet settlements, closings and successions, appeals won on the page before they were argued at the podium. Twelve attorneys and of counsel practice here today, and every one of them is answerable to clients by name.
We take fewer matters than most firms our size, and we take them further. Each engagement is led by a partner from the first meeting to the final order.
Six areas of law, practiced deeply rather than broadly.

When our family’s shipping business faced a dispute that could have ended it, Sterling & Vance treated the matter as if the firm’s own name were on the warehouse door. Measured, unhurried, and utterly prepared.
